Retail Council Provides Wealth of Resources for Retailers as They Reopen Across Canada

As Canadian MI stores and other retailers begin some phase of reopening in every province — whether that means delivery and curb-side pickup only, or actually letting customers in the store with social distancing precautions in place — the Retail Council of Canada (RCC) is providing a number of resources to make it easier.

The RCC is maintaining an ongoing database of province-specific rules for retailers, as well as practical guides on how to reopen in a manner that is best for both business and safety.

The RCC's Retail Recovery checklists and templates, which can be downloaded HERE, cover:

  • Returning to work team checklist and action plan
  • Employee temperature screening
  • Employees working from home
  • Employer occupational health & safety considerations
  • Social distancing and sanitation for retail stores and other workplaces
  • Sample cleaning checklists for stores and other facilities
  • Preparing the store for opening: Facilities checklist

The RCC says its checklists and templates are being regularly updated as circumstances and information progress.

As well, the RCC and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) have released the “Road to Retail Recovery Playbook - Helping Canadian Retailers Navigate the COVID-19 Crisis,” which provides thorough guidance to retailers large and small to help them plan and execute a broader reopening of retail stores across the country.  The Playbook leverages global best practices for a diverse range of retail formats with the fundamental aim of ensuring a safe environment for employees and customers during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Reopening the retail sector and putting our economy back on track will require new strategies, new rules, and new competencies,” said Diane J. Brisebois, President and CEO, RCC.  “The BCG and RCC partnership has allowed us to address these challenges and provide a strong roadmap for retailers large and small across Canada.”
