Made in Australia from sustainable materials, Spur Violins are designed by Paul Davies. He has combined traditional and modern manufacturing processes to create instruments that offer new soundscapes and aesthetics compared to traditional violins, such as on semi-acoustic Vanguard model.
“Counterpoint is very excited to be bringing Spur Violins to Canadian musicians. We first met Paul and saw his beautiful instruments at a show in New York in 2013 and have been eagerly awaiting the day when we could represent them in Canada,” says Counterpoint Manager Kathleen Stokholm. “Spur has been met with great success in Australia in the last few years and has streamlined their production capabilities to allow them to expand into other markets. We are very happy that Canada is one of the first countries outside of Australia to have access to these beautiful, handmade instruments, and that we are their partner sharing their philosophy of ‘respect for the past, vision for the future.’”
The Spur Vanguard produces a wide range of tonal possibilities, from traditional acoustic sonority to the electronically manipulated voices increasingly favored by modern musicians. By easily connecting to new technologies and maintaining the traditional feel and aura of a classical violin, the Spur Vanguard has become a top choice by such musicians as Tony Garnier of the Bob Dylan Band.
