Alfred Music has announced that long-time industry veteran and RPMDA president, Christie Smith, has joined its team of sales representatives to serve Canadian retail partners. In her role as senior sales representative for Canada, Smith will work closely with Canadian dealers to bring Alfred Music’s catalog of products to the Canadian market.
Christie Smith has been working in the retail music industry in Vancouver, BC for over 27 years. She began her career selling pianos at Tom Lee Music and eventually moved into the role of manager of the print music department. In 1992, Smith accepted a position at Ward Music, one of Canada’s largest print music retailers. Christie went on to work for Long & McQuade Musical Instruments when the company took over Ward Music in 2000. She has spent the last 15 years working closely with the Canadian music community and with publishers to present highly successful workshops and educational events. She is currently serving as president of the Retail Print Music Dealers Association, where she has the unique opportunity to work with some of the most creative minds in the business to help strengthen and support the print music industry as a whole.
In her personal life, Christie is a private piano and voice teacher and conducts both a church choir and a children’s choir. She is also a songwriter and recording artist and has written works for several different performing artists in Vancouver.
“As part of our mission to provide an industry-leading level of sales and service to our dealers worldwide, we are thrilled to welcome Christie Smith to the Alfred Music sales team,” says Antonio Ferranti, Alfred Music’s VP of Sales. “Her many years of multi-level experience in Canadian music retail, real-world understanding of the Canadian music market and it’s unique trends, and sheer passion for music education make her an invaluable resource to all of our Canadian retail partners and those we have yet to serve.”
