Brett Kissel Plays 8 Sold-Out Drive-In Concerts in 2 Days

Doing his absolute most to show that the demand for live music is at a fever pitch, even if it means being car-bound, Canadian country star Brett Kissel played an incredible eight sold-out drive-in concerts over just two days on June 13th and 14th. The shows were held in the parking lot of the River Cree Resort and Casino and raised funds for Food Banks Alberta.

“Absence makes the heart grow fonder and I’ve missed my band,” Kissel said from the stage about his fellow musicians, who were socially-distanced on stage and separated by Plexiglas partitions. “I’m going to soak in this moment for all it’s worth.”

Each of the right one-hour shows were played in front of nearly 200 vehicles full of fans who listened to the music from the stage via FM radio, much like at drive-in movie theatres. To show their appreciation, honking horns took the place of shouts and clapping hands.

The safety directions from Alberta Health Services meant that fans could not leave their cars, even to use washrooms.

“This will be a memory that we’ll never forget,” Kissel added. “This will be a story that we tell future generations.”

Kissel has three more drive-in concerts scheduled for Regina on June 20.
